paper sculpture with personality
Paper sculptor Doll Barnes lives in Wallingford, Connecticut, where she happily creates her paper sculpture menagerie. Other than it getting a bit crowded in the studio, all was going well until HGTV came and taped a segment for their show “That's Clever!”
Doll demonstrated the step-by-step creation of the Sandcastle Beach Duck using a heavy weight art paper. It wasn't long afterward that the Beach Duck started to get a bit uppity and discord crept into the studio. The rest of the menagerie started to get jealous and began piping up, “Take my picture! Take my picture!”
Where once they were content to watch quietly as new members were added to their troupe, they now began to vie for attention. When the cacophony got loud enough that Doll could no longer concentrate, she took each one outside separately and took their picture. Then she used their photos to create a unique line of greeting cards.
That seemed to satisfy everyone and peace finally returned to the studio. Now they just tend to murmur “Buy me! Buy me!” whenever they hear an order come in.
And that seems to be working out just fine!
